I remember the XT top mount thumb shifters on my Bridgestone MB-1 to be the most elegant and easy to use solution for shifting ever invented. They could as well be called knuckle shifters because just a slight twist of the hand with the knuckle of the index finger on the lever worked too. Other's obviously think the same since Paul Component Manufacturing makes the Thumbie, a mount for using bar end shifters as top mount shifters. IRD has taken it a step further with the XC-Pro Thumb Shifters. These are ready to clamp on, run the cable (included) and housing (not inluded) and go riding. Shims are included for use with 22.2 mm diameter bars like the Nitto Albatross, Soma Oxford, and Nitto Moustache bars. Will work on 26.0 diameter road bars as well. So get the Paul Thumbies for 72 bucks and Shimano bar end shifters for 80 to 90 bucks, or get these for 133 bucks.
