Racks & Carriers

On the Bike - Front Racks, Baskets and Rear Racks for everyday, commuting and touring. We do our best to offer a variety to fit many styles of riding.

Notice that the Tubus steel/chro-moly racks weigh less than the RackTime Aluminium racks. Tubus makes performance-oriented racks and uses very high quality steel, ideal for touring and durabilty.  RackTime offers an alternative for those looking for a lightweight rack made from aluminum.

Some notes on rack materials:

  • Aluminum is stiff and lightweight. A combination of material price and workability make aluminum a good choice for a rack at a more economical price than steel or titanium.
  • 25CrMo4 (aka “Chro-Moly” steel) has greater strength than aluminum so thinner tubes can be used resulting in lower weight. Steel may be the easiest material to have repaired in the field....but chances are slim you will break a Tubus rack.
  • Stainless Steel has all the benefits of 25CrMo4, plus is slightly stronger and maintains a nice appearance . Stainless Steel is the best rack material for remote touring expeditions.
  • Titanium is by far the lightest and strongest metal that is more flexible than 25CrMo4/Stainless Steel. The only downside of Titanium is that it is more dificult to repair than steel.
