Beautifully made by Frost River in Duluth, Minnesota, the Gunflint is quite impressive. The canvas and leather construction makes for a sturdy, water-resistant bag that will only get bettwer Duck Canvas with supple leather straps. (The straps come from S.B. Foot Tanning Company in Red Wing, MN. Yes, that Red Wing) The US made fabric is impregnated with wax for lifetime resistance to inclement weather.With plenty of space for all shapes and sizes of cargo, the Gunflint can be compressed or expanded to suit your load. If you want a highly functional saddlebag with timeless style this is the one you need.
This is a classic British style saddle bag supported by a real stick with two leather straps which hook through the loops on the back of a leather saddle. This bag works well when supported on a rack platform but can also be used without a rack.
We've also had good success using this bag up front, suspended from the handlebars. it works especially well on Jones Loop H-Bars or Surly Moloko bars as the bag can be strapped to the forward extension, allowing the bag to expand to full capacity. Depending on clearance, it may be beneficial to support the bag with a front rack such as Surly's 8-pack. The rack also allows a tighter, more secure attachment as the bag can be tensioned between the handlebar and rack deck.
