These are made for Surly from a fine, 100% merino wool. They are double-layered for extra insulation but without the bulk and coarseness of thicker wool. The inner layer is lighter for a soft next-to-skin feel. The outer layer is a mid-weight for extra wind-stopping ability. In the immortal words of the Wu-Tang Clan, you best protect ya' neck!
