Attempting to install a front fender on a bike with a big space between the fork crown and the top of the tire? Instead of fabricating a flimsy piece, you couls use the Problem Solvers Fender flute. Attach the fender to the bottom most hole on the flat side of the fender flute. with the wheel removed, slip the flute inside the steer tube of the fork and bolt it on. Replace the tire and undo the bolt in the fork to adjust the fender to the desired height, then bolt the flute to the fork in the correct position. Simple and sturdy!
